Did you work on the design of the 450 center cockpit Hunter?

If you did - why did the engine "room" turn out to be such a disaster?

We bought Toucan Dream in 1997, a Passage 450 (Hull #20). It is our understanding that the engine room was originally designed for the Volvo/Perkins engine. Not many Hunter customers wanted that engine (including us) so they changed over to the Yanmar 4JH2 series. That put the raw water pump in a very difficult place to access (on the port side) and also put the oil filter in a position (on the starboard side) that when changing, all the oil would drain out of the filter before the filter could be turned vertical. Other things were also very difficult to access, such as the starter motor and the alternator. We have just learned to put up with the poor access and also installed an access panel in the shower that helped, somewhat. All in all, though, it has been a very enjoyable boat as we still have her and she is now 12 years old. Next year, we'll put on new sails and she'll sail like a new boat!!

I did not design the Passage 450. That was just before my time at Hunter.

Hello Glen

Can you tell me for what kind of windlass my anchor locker was designed for.

Thank you.

Alain,

That boat was before my time. You will need to obtain that from Hunter customer service.
