I have a 1986 Hunter 45 with a B&R rig swept back about 30 degrees and with a backstay. The lower shrouds on the B&R rig are 3/8" and attach to the mast just underneath the spreaders with tangs, a SS 3/4" bushing with a 1" collar sliding inside the tang and about 3/8" further into the mast, finally a 1/2" SS bolt holds both the port and starboard side together. The S sushing has condiderable play in the mast while the P bushing has minimal. There is also considerable clearance in the bolt to bushing ID (1/8"). I have pictures of the starboard side hole in the mast. The S bushing was deformed and is going to be re-manufactured, the bolt is quite bent and will be replaced. This area was repaired before and is damaged again. I am concerned that replacement parts will be deformed again and the hole bigger in the mast. I am looking for direction on a step to sail for the season and repair in the off season for longer term.

Sail with Caution.

Scott: I would sail with caution. This sounds like it COULD result in a total mast failure. You may try getting ahold of Rigrite at www.rigrite.com and see if they have any input for your. I believe that you have an Isomat Spar and they are dealers for them.

Dosen't sound like mine

Just a heads up. My lowers are 7/16" with a stemball with cupple on the upper end and a turnbuckle on the lower with a 3/4" pin. The stemball rests inside the cupple which is mounted through the lower spreader base casting. If you only have 3/8" wire, someone has changed the rigging parameters. I have just replaced the rigging so I have been up close and personnal with it. Goodluck
