P42 Anchor Washdown

Yes. Ours is pretty basic; a two gallon plastic bucket with a five foot lanyard tied to a galvanized wire handle with a small carabiner on the bitter end. Works great for washing down the anchor and other boat chores.

Some have gone to the trouble and expense of running wires, pumps and hoses to the bow for the same purpose, but I chose the lower cost alternative. :snooty:

Yep, Terry I upgraded to an 8 foot lanyard. As we both have discovered it can be a challenge running wires and hoses on the H42.

Don't know if your 42 is similar to the 410 but I connected to the toilet intake under the forward berth. I ran new wires back to the panel.

don't forget about draining/blowing it out at winterize time...it gets cold up there and a friend had his freeze, crack and leak in the vberth.

I still use a 3 or 5 gallon bucket.

On my 45cc I mounted a washdown pump in the anchor locker and hang an intake hose over the side, when I need it. A screen filter weighted down with lead weights on the intake keeps it in the water a free from debris. On the output side is a small length of hose with nozzle attachment. I installed a cutoff switch as well in the locker. I do not remember where I got power inside from

I installed a pump under the floorboards where the seacocks are for the macerator and heads (forward one in the salon). I have a 50' "permanently" coiled type hose on it, with a spray-gun type fitting. When I want to use it I turn the pump breaker on and take the hose out through the forward head hatch and use it that way. I can also use it to spray the stern area after cleaning fish if it's particularly dirty.

It's such a hassle that I very rarely use it. I almost always rely on the bucket.

Thanks guys all good ideas, but I think I'll put this project on the back burning and keep using the old bucket method for this season. Plenty of other projects on the list.

Happy Sailing!

If the anchor comes up so muddy that it needs a wash down I usually leave it skimming the water surface for a bit while getting underway. It's a CQR-type, however, so the water streams well over the plough. The teak decks on the Bavaria get a bucket-seawater rinse nearly every morning when at anchor; so, no mud hangs around for long anywhere on deck.

Wash down pump advantages

Has anyone installed an anchor wash down on a Hunter 42 Passage? Looking for tips and ideas.

Thanks!
Like most of my projects, I tend to do a fairly advanced install.
I like the advantages of a high capacity wash down pump, as I find it very handy.
Here is what I did:
Installed a dedicated through hull fitting with shut off
Up at the anchor locker on deck, I installed a Perko hose outlet.
The pump I ended up with was Johnson, as it is rated at 5.5 gpm, and the quality is excellent.
Another huge advantage of a high capacity deck wash down pump is that it is a formidable weapon in water fights. Not that I woukd know from such childish behavior.
