This is one of the snake river systems and I'm trying to figure out if I have a bad tank monitor as a whole or just the gauge for the holding tank. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out where this would be located in and around the holding tank under the galley sink. How would I go about locating it?

The sender--which is prob'ly what has failed--will be on the outside of a tank wall. The panel should be on a wall or maybe the side of the vanity...somewhere it can be seen.

Snake River went out of business nearly 10 years ago...the brand has been picked up by a succession of people over the years who thought it was worth something, so you may find it if you google Snake River. However, I wouldn't bother. Dennis Ferriello was SR's national sales manager for a couple of decades...when they went out of business he started his own company making the Profile tank monitors, Profile Tank Monitors which are TOP rated. The components are also plug -n' play replacements for the SR systems...and Dennis provides the best customer service help of anyone in the marine industry. Give him a call--he'll even answer the phone on weekends!--and he'll help you sort out what you need to do to have a working system again. You'll find a whole bunch of folks here who've bought systems and parts from him and will HIGHLY recommend both Dennis and the Profile systems.

I've spoken with Dennis and ultimately why I asked about the sender and what it looks like. The entire tank monitor is next to the main panel but I didn't not see the sender. They installed it under the galley and I have to say I failed to find any exterior mounting with such an item. Does someone have a picture what that would look like?

If you go to the order page on the Profile website (link included in my previous reply) and scroll down, you'll come to the senders. Better yet, SCAD monitors are a private label version of the Profile gauges...this on the SCAD site should help you see what you're looking for and how this system should be installed: http://www.scadtech.com/tank_monitors
