After the winter storage, I have problems emptying out my manually operated Jacobs-Head. After flushing and pumping the bowl empty, the water returns to the bowl with a lot of gargling noises and some back pressure. I checked the venting system, which appeared to be fine. The tank is completely empty. Any ideas what else to look for to solve the problem?

Recheck your tank vent

'Cuz I'm almost certain that's your problem. There are two places where 99% of vent blockages occur on sailboats--the thru-hull and the connection at the tank...both the fitting and that end of the vent line. Scrape everything out with the end of a screwdriver. If that's NOT it, get back to me.

Check your Y-valve

Did this a few years ago. Winterized and turned all the thru-hulls and 3-way and Y valves to keep them freed up and ended up pumping "overboard" with the thru-hull closed. Make sure your Y-valve is pointing in the right direction. Mine had a really strange way of indicating which outlet it was dumping to and I had mistakenly set to to overboard. Happy pumping

joker valve

any return to the toilet bowl means your joker valve unservicable,my main discharge pump was only man enough to pump out of deck exit and wouldnt pump thru hull at all, just needed new valves in gusher type pump,,,,,,,,no blockage present but it felt as if it were solid
