Hunter 40 repairs from Hurricane Matthew

Hi all,

Hurricane Matthew did a number on my venerable Hunter 40 (1986 Legend, not the MH40). We salvaged her and I have started on repairs to get her back in the water. Lots of work ahead and I figure at least a 2 year project. My question(s):

Is a repair/rebuild/construction type article ok on the forums?

Is anyone interested in following a thread of that duration?

To give a teaser as to what I'm up against, our marina was destroyed, the boat ended up partially submerged with a couple of holes in the side. Full before to present (and future) story to anyone interested.

I considered starting my own blog but I think this forum would be a better venue. However, I can see the thread getting unmanageable over time due to length, number of posts, etc. Are there ways to manage that - i.e., archiving sections, or grouping sections within the original thread? I know a bit more about boat repair than internet forum management!

Cheers,

Mark

"Yes" to both of your questions.
Start your thread. Post reasonably-sized photos for those of us with limited bandwidth, please. ;)

It won't be the first.

Yes, post all the gory details here. The east coast is jammed full of vulnerable marinas filled with sailors who leave their boats tied up during a named storm. Your experience could be illuminating.

@CloudDiver has shared his Catalina 22 rebuild with us since October 2014, so yes, we'll follow your progress!
Thanks @kappykaplan!
To the OP, my resto thread is at 37 pages with over 50K views, so don't worry about length or being unmanageable. Sharing your story, methods, and repair tips is what this forum is all about. So yes, many of us will read it enthusiastically and appreciate your effort.
A tip on photo management (and photo sizes); I use my iPhone to take all of my pics. My new iPhone 7 takes much better pics than my old 5S. I have a Photobucket account where I upload them all, a link on my home screen takes me right to my upload page so I don't have to connect the phone to the computer with a cable. When uploading the photos to my Photobucket library it automatically reduces the size (I am fairly certain it does shrink them to a manageable size). Anyway, I then use the copied image links from photo bucket to insert into the post... no worries about photo file size being huge!

Ok, I'll give it a try.

As soon as I upload some photos to PB I'll get started on a new thread. Thanks guys for all the input!
