Hunter 40.5 - What is this for?

Does anyone know where this cockpit drain (at least I think that is what its supposed to be) is supposed to be connected to? When "cleaning up and out" I stuck my head inside the STBD side Lazarette and there is no hose connected. Doesn't seem to be much use as is.

Looks like someone felt the need to install a vent. Isn't that where the CNG tank was located on the model years before propane? It wouldn't do any good for propane, I.e., too high.

Just guessing but could it be where the PO ran a propane line to his propane grill when he used it. I sure hope your cockpit drains don't clog ;)

Plug it. It's someone's add-on that has no function for you but to add another source of water entry.

My idea too. I plan on pluging it right away. I can't see any useful purpose for this. Now that I think about it, the PO had a Webasto AirTop Diesel heater in the Stbd Lazarette and I'll bet it was to allow combustion air to get in - just my guess but it sounds logical.

It protrudes too far into the locker just waiting for something heavy to hit it cracking the fiberglass. At the least, cut it off inside.

Good idea Don. I'll either remove it and put some sort of blank in until I can glass it over or I'll cut it off and leave just enough for some sort of closure. Maybe I can thread a plug inside of it and cut it off flush with the inside nut. I'll figure something out.

just cut it off in side and leave enough threads to put a plastic pipe cap on the threads inside ....

as for what it was used for it may be where you put the water bottle to calm down the magma that is in there ;)

If we had a picture with the cockpit side cover up I would be more certain, but I think this is for a fresh water supply hose from the dock. I am suspecting that under the cover there's a male garden type hose connector. Inside the hull a potable water hose was probably to be clamped to the fitting then led to the cold water supply.

The black box is actually a speaker (you can see the wires in the picture from the inside of the lazarette.) The white opening is the thing I was referring to in my question.

Under the cover looks to be a VHF speaker- there's a wire to it.

I think the thru-hull is there for those times you just can't leave the cockpit, but you just gotta go.

Could it be where a hole was drilled in error? A auxiliary 12V outlet "cigarette lighter" might work there to use for a spotlight.

Good idea. I'll see what might work. I like the idea of a plug in for a search light or some other 12V accessory. I'll have to make sure its properly fused, etc but that is a great idea!
