We have a 2009 Hunter 38 that has a TV cable and phone outlet installed. I can trace the wiring back only a few feet and then lose it. I believe it should run across the transom and then forward up the port side. It seems that the terminus should be near the nav station or near the Bose Surround System, but as yet I haven't been able to locate it. Any sage advice other than opening every possible access and going on a witch hunt?

If your manual doesn't show a wiring schematic, look behind the bulkhead where the tv usually mounts-I assume you don't have the tv.... Failing that, call Hunter-they should be able to tell you

I suggest install new wires. Abandon the existing ones. The co-ax is RG-6 and use CAT5 for the phone wire.

I was just looking at the owners manual for a 38. The schematic has the cable going to the back of the TV.

Owners manual

I was just looking at the owners manual for a 38. The schematic has the cable going to the back of the TV.
The Hunter Owners manual in my possession did not display the TV Cable Run.
Since there was no TV mounted I was searching for a likely plausible outlet like near the entertainment center or nav station. I have emailed Hunter for the location of the cable run. After the cable terminus is located I too thought it may be a good idea to connect it to a TV.

Since a TV and some antennas require a 120V outlet check for the treminus connectors near an outlet. Check the outlets schematics to make sure you don't miss any one.

We also have a 2009 Hunter 38.

We had a mast-mounted TV antenna installed during commissioning, and had the antenna cable terminate next to the boat's coax, then connected both to an A/B switch, which we installed in the port side bookcase.

We installed our own flat panel television on the same bulkhead panel Hunter uses for the factory installed television, i.e., above the Bose 3-2-1 system. Power cord is run from the same small entertainment system inverter used for the Bose, which is located under the port settee forward of the nav station.

As I recall, there is a conduit running through the bottom of that settee that may contain the coax, but Hunter customer service should be able to confirm the location for you.

We have a 2008 - when we bought her new last summer, the cable didn't work. Having been tipped off by friends how bought a new 38 in 2007 and had the same problem, we knew that Hunter had not hooked it up and apparently the dealer didn't either. Pull the panel off by the nav seat, reach down in that compartment and you will find several cable runs going from forward, and aft cabins. You'll also find a splitter that is connected to the cable coming from the dockside hook up. All that was required was to connect the cable to the splitter.

Thanks for the advice Quadrille. We found the cable coming from the dockside hookup beneath the nav seat in the compartment behind the entertainment center breakers after we removed the top wood panel below the nav seat. As you mentioned, in the compartment behind the wood panel above and inboard of the nav seat we found three cable ends. Connecting the single "hot" cable to one of the three leading forward did the trick.

Glad to help. Our friends sharing their experience saved us a ton of detective work.

Hunter does a nice job of giving you options on where you want TV to go. Too bad dealer doesn't hook them up, or at least tell you that you need to select where you want it and connect it.

And I always thought the buyer was supposed check to see if all the systems operated properly when switched on. At the very least, checked by the surveyor you're paying who's supposed to validate that all works correctly.
