I am upgrading my Lewmar 40 halyard winch to electric, should be easy, it was an original option? not so, if any 376 owner could provide some insight, pics of your installation it would be very helpful. Mahalo

I made the change. It took some time but was not too difficult. The location of the switch to operate it is critical; not because of the switch, but to have a hole where you can get a wrench in to tighten the motor in place.

I'll take some pictures this weekend and post them.

Mahalo for the quick responce, pics would be helpful. Did you have to use the Lewmar extension kit to have room to tighten the bolts? The deck thickness where I cut the hole is about the same as the shaft, I have contacted Lewmar about their extention kit, however, no responce to date. Tom Clark

No. I used the new winch just as it came in the box.

Attached are two pics of the installation I did. I had a Lewmar 44. The measurements are in inches and are from the fiberglas edge to the center of the switch. I ran the wires down the wall and into the engine compartment and under the engine (in loom) to the battery. The wires down the wall I covered with a teak board.

Alan, Mahalo Nui (thanks a lot) I appreciate the pics. I also ran the wire (2-0) under the engine and will probably do the balance similiar to yours. I ordered the extension kit from Lewmar because the fit was so tight I could not access the bolts for the motor/gearbox. Again Mahalo, if you are ever in Hawaii look me up and I will take you for a sail!

You're welcome. And thanks for the offer of a sail. I haven't been in Hawaii since I delivered a boat from there to Alaska. I enjoyed sailing in the Hawaii area.
