Hi, Can someone point me in the right direction for objective info on this model. I would specifically like to know about any potential keel and/or rudder issues; deck to hull joint; standing rigging/is the a double spreader rig? Perhaps if a willing owner could get back to me, I could ask them directly. Any imput greatly appreciated. It is a nice looking boat and the reviews I've read are favorable, however as usual they are all from satisfied current owners!! Any former owners out there!! Thanks, Scott My actual email addrss is slynds3434@yahoo.ca

Check archives and reviews on this site

If you are looking for problems, check the archives first, since we share all of our "projects" (read problems) with the site! Then check the related archives of the whole line - the Chreubini Hunters. Most of the problems of age and wear are shared in common with the other boats of the era. The only comment I would make from following the Cherubini site for the past 5 years, is that keel and rudder problems are seldom reported, except that some boats have had trouble with the rudder tube, and bearing surfaces. (I don't remember a specific case on the h37c.) There is a book by Marshall available on this website about choosing a cruising sailboat. I found it a good general discussion about cruising bost design features, and why I should (or should not) care. It includes the objective performance ratios for over 100 boats, including the 37c. The design is clearly blue water capable, and compares well with other blue water boats of its, or later eras. Welcome to the site! David Lady Lillie '77 h27

have not heard about many issues.

Scott: There are very few issues with the 37C, that is why you don't find anything. Issues may be the older engine, if it has not been changed out and the holding tank which was metal. I have not heard about keel, rudder or deck joint issues. Remember these boats are well over 20 years old so many will need stuff repaired/replaced at this point in their life.

Strong!!!!

Scott... There was a time when some 37c's had upper bearing strength problems with the rudder. I don't know of any catastrophic failures, but many owners have beefed up the shelf holding the upper bearing. Deck joint? There are 3/8" ss bolts on 6" centers making that joint with 3m #5200 sealant in between. Any problems just require taking up on the bolts and nuts. Keel? again, a solid joint made up with 10 (I think) 5/8" ss j-bolts cast into the keel and bolted to the very hefty stub. This is a very strongly built boat. You probably already know that in addition to the questionable holding tank (ours is still "holding" after DAILY use for nearly 20 years), the plastic ports are almost sure to need replacement. We chose Hood SS ports and love 'em. My wife and I have lived aboard our '81 37c for nearly 20 years now, the last 6 at anchor or on a mooring. Wonderful, strong boat.
