But I wonder if any of us has ever replaced a sail in “excellent” condition?
Even dedicated racers who often replace sails more frequently than cruisers would honestly describe the replaced sails as good to fair. Who would replace a sail that retains its original shape?

@Jrtauber after 30 years of sailing experience have you traded in a sail in "Excellent" condition? I'm with @David in Sandusky and think not.
You might want to look at Bacon Sails in MD. They consign sails. If you know your boat stats you might find a sail to meet your needs.
