Hunter 35.5 fuel tank intake screen

Just bought a 1995 Hunter 35.5 and had the engine quit during the delivery to my home port. Changed the fuel filters (which were clean) and the engine ran for an additonal 4-5 hours and then quit. This time I traced it to a blocked intake pickup line. I suspect algae in the tank is blocking the fuel tank pickup screen because it can be cleared by unhooking the filter intake line and blowing the line out to the tank. Any advice on the best way to remove the screen on the fuel tank intake line? The access to the tank is in the starboard lazarette and the top of the pickup tube is not very accessible.

Fuel intake screen

Hi Russell, how did you go about getting the screen off the intake? Did you have to go through the inspection panel or is there an easier way? Also is the intake tube flexible or is it a metal tube. I can access it from the top I think but there is not enough room to pull it straight out if it is not flexible. I found lots of info on the archives on the issue but none specifically on exactly how it was removed on the 35.5.
