Hi all, was a wondering if anyone knows the foot length of a #2 and #3 35.5 sail
Thanks Floyd
PS when are we going to wake up from this nightmare

#2 and #3 foot lengths are defined below where J is the distance measured from the front side of the mast to the intersection of the deck and head stay. Your Hunter 35.5 J measurement is 12.16 ft.

To clarify, the size is defined by the LP (luff perpendicular), not directly the foot size. The LP will be a function of the foot length and clew height (or leech length).

If you want to get close, you can just look at foot size, but the LP will measure smaller than the foot size.

For a deck-sweeper, they are close to 1:1. For a high clew working jib, the LP will be fairly less than the foot.

Final thought, the % shown in the table is a guideline, but not hard fixed. Some people prefer a 150 or 145% for a #1... some consider a #3 as 100 or 105%... so YMMV, but a good starting point.

I’m sure you guys know probably knew this, and were just simplifying, but posting for others that may search this thread in the future

As said above, this response is the length perpendicular of a given sail size, its only relationship to the foot length is that the foot length of a sail the given LP will be something greater than this number. The foot length is also affected by the geometry of a sail, ie the higher the clew, the longer the foot length.

Thanks I appreciate it, I am thinking of installing a track tighter to the center line to help with pointing so I will need a smaller head sail for that

That track is pretty well inside already, if you are not pointing well I would think the issues are other than the track location. And most smaller jobs also have a raised clew, so they would trim aft the shrouds...

This is a photo from someone else’s boat, you can see where the arrow is, that is the original location which is on all 35.5’s the one above the window is where I want to put a new track just like in the photo.
I have a 155% and want a shorter foot length so it will fit under the stays
These boats are good and fast but pointing because of the track location isn’t that great I race the boat

I’ve seen these pictures as well.

I believe the in-board tracks were part of the package installed on the 1991 Liberty/Gold Cup boats, along with jumper struts and a larger wheel... maybe more.

If I remember correctly, those pics were posted by user who added them to a non-Gold Cup 35.5. If you can find the thread, maybe they can share sail dimensions and/or pics of the sail sheeted to the track.

We have a deep fin keep 37, which I think point pretty well, and have thought about adding the inner tracks, obviously our I/J dimensions are different.

I also added a jumper strut to my mast which helps to tighten the head stay when using the back stay adjuster
I put garhaurer adjustable jib cars on my boat so I have the originals I could use on the new tracks just have to pickup a couple of tracks and I stall them
