The original collars are held with 6 screws, they come out easy enough but, what is the collar held down with to the deck? They don't want to budge.
I don't want to just start prying them up without knowing.

I believe you mean deck plate. And presume you mean the female portion of deck trim plate and what kind of sealant was used ? That is hard question to answer without pictures. Can you see the sealant or glue ? Is it white then it's probably 5200 and if its clear it's probably some sort of silicone. Is it in good shape? Or has the uv rays eaten it up. If the trim plate ring is to badly damaged then you will need to replace deck plate so breaking it into pieces and prepping the hole for a new deck plate will have to take place. First Get the hole diameter dimensions. I would check the store site here for a replacement and use the butyl tape that mainsail sales here a much better caulking to use for such things.
Next time don't lose the deck plate so you can remove dorade vent from time to time for cleaning or storing it away down below when it is not needed.
Example my dorade vent is placed in the middle of companionway hood the vent to below is off set so the air space under the hood plus the two large drain areas on side of hood allow for plenty off air circulation with out the dorade scoop 90 % of the time. My dorade scoop lives under the head vanity sink cabin were it stays nice and clean.
My deck plate on companionway hood is going about 12 years now and showing signs of yellowing . I suspect I will be needing a new deck plate with trim ring eventually too. But the plastic dorade scoop looks fine. I have been thinking of going with stainless . Maybe even a stainless $$$$$$ dorade scoop. Last longer looks snappier.
