I am considering a Hunter 31 and a Hunter 34- I've looked at several 31's and now will start looking at 34's- I've looked at the line plans and don't see where the extra tree feet differences are. I see a little space in the head, but where else?
thanks

I had both 31 and 34

I had a 1984 31 and now have a 1999 34. I think I may like the 31 better.
You have less cleaning, you do not need lazy jacks with the 31 I feel. The main sail was easy to fold alone. I have lazy jacks on the 34 which is a necessity because of the sail size. I have propane on the 34 which I like. I had an alcohol stove on the 31. The head is much bigger, the galley a little bigger. The v berth seems to be the same size, the salon area a litle bigger, annd the aft cabin a little bigger.

My main concern is the main sail. The cover is attached to the boom which I do not like and I do not like the lazy jacks.

thanks !

Richard - thanks so much for the quick response - I like the 31 and I'm pretty sure I can handle it easily myself- but the 34 is bigger, heavier, sails bigger and I don't really see where a dramatic increase in space is found.
thanks for your input. Roger

If the boat is a '99

it is not a H34, Duke- maybe a 340? The H34 (which I have ) was only made until 1987. It is very much a big brother to the 31- the 3 feet diff is spread over the length but from the side it looks like they cut out the piece where the aft rectangular windo is on the 34. Both roomy boats for the money

I think it is spread out

Because it has 3 more feet, things are just spread out more. I think that the floor plan is the same - just bigger on the 34 which is 34-1/2 actually. The beam is also different. Sail area will be a big difference so the H34 will be much better in light air which it is known for.
They both will have the iron keel and its known issues. Draft will be different between boats. Cockpit will be larger on the H34.

One thing I know for sure is that the starboard lazarette will be smaller on the h31 so if you ever need to crawl into that area, you will need to be smaller too:)
