I need to replace all of the 8" x 15" opening ports on my 1983 Hunter 34. I have six of the Bomar/Gray replacement ports that have angled drains (G512-AD). The attached photo shows the new port sitting on a flat surface with the drain angled away to the left, approx 80 degrees. The black box to the right shows a 90 degree vertical reference. Seems that the ports I need to replace have straight drains, but I'm not 100% certain. I just spoke with a sales rep at Pompanette/Bomar/Gray and they tell me they do not stock the 8" x 15" replacements with a straight drain. I'm not too keen to start ripping the old ports out until I'm certain I have the correct replacement. Any experience with this? Suggestions? Thanks, Gary

they fit the 37

Those are the same ones I used on my 37 cutter and they fit just right. On the cutter four of the 5X12s go up front and 6 of the larger (7 X 15 ?) go in the main salon area. All of them have the slanted drain, and look like your photo, which allows for the slope of the side of the cabin. If you9 cabin is a 90 degree vertical, that might be a problem buit I believe they all have the angled slope. Chjeck the archives for an exact macth, or follow the link to another Hunter who used the same replacements. Good luck Sanders

Entire Port?

When I had my 34 (for 16 years) I ordered just the interior gray lenses, not the entire unit. They were a simple replacement. Just an idea. Good luck.

angled ports

My local boat shop ordered the ports without the rain drain for my 85 Hunter 28.5. after figuring out the the cabin sides were way beyond 15 degrees I called Bomar. Steve at Bomar said that I would need the rain drain ones and If I sent them back to him he would trade them even though I bought them from another vender. While I had the first ones I tried to see how they would fit. I noticed that they came out just flush with the outside of the cabin. The trim ring needs the lip of the hatch to stick out a little farther. The old ones measured almost 1 1/2 in. depth. Steve explained that they make the hatch for 1" depth or 2" depth. If you need another they can cut the 2" one down. For a one time set up charge of $20 they will cut them to what you need (multiple hatches). I am waiting for my new exchanged hatches to arrive. I replaced all of mine.

On my '86 H34 that is. By the way, I think Steve (Oops, I meant Jeff) is interchanging brand names just the way I do. Bomar makes the hatches, Beckson makes the RainDrain ports that I installed as a replacement of those DAMN TERRIBLE Gray ports. Love my new Becksons! Check out their web site for the trimming directions. It's best to custom fit them to each location because the depth needed varies. That said, this is what they look like trimmed to fit.
