Hunter 34 demast due to Sandy

Hello,

This has been one of my favorite websites for the last few years. I probably check it almost every day. You all have helped me so much with the many projects I have had on my H34 in the past 3 years. I replaced the ports, did gel cote repair, and even learned how not to hydro lock my Yanmar when water syphoned when I tried to run it on the hard. Anyway Sandy decided to send her under a fixed bridge and demast her. The mast is tost as it is in 2 pieces and bent. Does anyone here know how or where to begin to look for one? Or has anyone had the same problem? Once again, thanks for all your help in the past.

You may want to check with Rig-rite. They have most of the replacment parts for the Isomat spars. I am not sure which one unit you boat had. I suppose that either one will work considering you have nothing at this point.

Sorry to hear, Coxwaine.. My '85 model has a Kenyon BF 5386.. There were a couple of different sections used in different years so measure carefully!

Sorry to hear about your mast. If the mast is toast you could always cut a small section out to send in for a match. Will you be replacing the standing rigging as well? Was there any other damage?

Kenyon or Kenyon Isomat was purchased by Z Spar years ago. Without going into further ado, Z Spar abrubtly left the country. However, Charleston Spar in charlotte, NC which is in the same facility, with basically the same mast sections of Kenyon and the same people are in place. Call Jim Culliburt to see if he can help you with Kenyon Isomat spars as he was the same salesman now with Charleston Spar.

Yes I think I will have to replace standing and running rigging. I almost need a new one of everything on the outside of the boat, not to include the glass work. It may be close to the upper limit of my insurance. Don, good idea to cut small section out to send in for a match.

If all else fails, I may have quite a few H34 parts for sale. I will keep you all posted.

The standing rigging for your boat is probably less than $1500 from Seco South. The price for running rigging can't be beat from this website.

Talk with Gene at Seco as they made the original rigging for the boat. Tell her crazy said hello. If the mast was not made by Kenyon but by Z spar, then go to US spars as they have the actual extrusions for the 340. US spars in gainesville, florida.

Wow, you guys have a lot of great info. Thanks, I will make sure to call all of these guys when I start looking. The insurance company is saying to send in estimates with pictures. The estimates may have to wait as all the facilities around me, in Morgan Creek, are busy with recovery. I just got on board last night and the port chain plate tie rod was also torqued about an 1/8th of a turn and the beam over the compression post may have sustained dammage. I will keep you all posted as to what happens.

Crazy Dave...

Once again you have proved to be a fountain of knowledge!

Thanks for the background info on a mast replacement source.

Re: Hunter 34 demast due to Sandy

Sorry about the damages to your boat and the toasted mast ! FYI, 10 years ago I broke my Kenyion mast and it was replaced with a Charleston Spars mast. Only a little bit of shaving was necessary on the front of the mast step to fit the new mast on it. Insurance covered everything. Good luck

mast search

Coxwaine, I feel your pain, I belong to KYC , we did fairly well, matter fact I was down last sat there are about 5 boats still on moorings there. Is morgan in past lockwoods??I stayed at Lockwoods 2 yrs ago when my motor took a crap, I winter in viking marina peekskill ny, across from Haverstraw, they got clobbered withthe tidal surge also. Theres a good chance u may find a mast after all this damage, maybe to a boat with mast, pulled in a rack?? Do you have to deal with the rail and 35 bridge every time u go out sailing?? Red

Coxwaine, so sorry to hear of your plight. I wish you the best in your efforts to get her seaworthy again. There are a few places in NJ with used spars but they might have sustained damage as well. Eggers Sailloft might know of some local shops eager to help. http://www.johneggers.com/
