My boat was recently relocated with me from Cleveland to Seattle. While the rig is down, I'm planning on inspecting it and giving it a touch-up and cleaning. Any thoughts on cleaning the white finish on the mast. What about touch-up where scratches exist. Also any tips on maintaining the sheeves at the top of the mast would be appreciated. Mast Finish and Inspection

First, welcome to BI! You're just a few miles away. Can't answer all your questions, but with regard to the mast, the H34 came standard with an anodized mast so at some point someone must have painted it. I'd suggest a visit to Doc Freemans in Ballard located at the north east end of the Ballard bridge with this question. If the finish has been on a while and still has a good shine to it, it's probably a quality paint, maybe a two-part. With regard to checking the mast out, I's highly recommend trying to remove any fasteners you can and putting some antiseize on them. If they won't come out then nothings lost. For Puget Sound sailing, if the mast isn't already equipped, you might want to consider putting a Windex at the masthead. The winds shift a lot and this would be helpful.

H34 Mast paint

Later H34 model spars from Kenyon were painted an almost white gray. I've found that Brightsides Matterhorn White is an almost perfect match -- used it to refinish my mast when it was pulled two years ago. Great finish using foam brush and plenty of thinner.
