Someone ran into my boat and bent the anchor roller. We are going to replace the whole plate that includes the roller. Does anyone know if the two fasteners in the back end of the are screws or are they bolts. If they are bolts I assume that we will have to cut a hole in the front end of the anchor locker to get to them. Thanks, Jim

Screws on the 31

On my HUnter 31 (1983), those two rear screws near the center of the plate are machine screws. They pass through the upper exposed ss plate, and into threaded holes in another steel plate fiberglassed into the deck. They will screw out, with a lot of effort, usually with an impact wrench and lots of lube. Underneath, forward of the anchor locker, there's just a void that drops down into the V-berth. However, you can't reach up from below; just not enough room.

I had this same thing happen to me last year. I just stayed with the bent roller (the anchor still worked) until haulout time. On my 33 all of the screws were bolts with nuts on the inside. The Pad Eye bolts (U-shaped tie off point) rusted pretty badly in the anchor locker side and I had to cut the thing off. A dremel tool with a (few) cutting disk worked fast. Also when hunter put the top-side deck bolts through it appears that they epoxied them in pretty well. I actually had to drill a few of them out after stripping their heads out. In the end the project took me about three times long than I planned. I was glad to have my mast down during that time. Andy
