I am having a custom Bimini made by sailboat owners.com and was hoping someone on the forum who has had one made by them can tell me how far it extends past the stern rail. I need to relocate my radar pole off the gunnel to the transom to accommodate the Bimini and need to know how far back to move it. My Bimini is due to arrive hopefully just before I leave on a two week cruise so I want to move my radar ahead of time. Thanks!

I did that first. They told me it’s built on a frame and not a boat so would not be able to provide that information. Thanks for stating the obvious!

I purchased one from them for my 31 which will be basically the same, and it does not go past the stern rail. It will be adjustable for and aft to some degree as well as height. Incidentally I added down bars to side deck as well as extending the rear supports to the transom to give the bimini a more solid feel. Good luck Eddie

IMHO if you have the ability to dictate design, it is best to extend the back of the bimini over the stern rail to the furthest point aft of the hull. This to give maximum shade in the cockpit without extending the length overall of the boat. Further, the sides of the bimini should roughly follow the toe rail, although straight and not curved. The front should be as far forward as possible without interfering with the boom. The height should be as high as possible and level so that no one has to ever stoop. The design should shed and not retain rain water. The resulting bimini shape will basically be an isosceles trapezoid, widest at the forward edge and casting a large enough shadow in the cockpit to satisfactorily shade man and dog.

I just received mine a couple of weeks ago and installed it on a Sunday. I don't have exact measurements or anything, but I can tell you it comes to just even or barely past the back railing. Does providing yourself 3"-6" place the mount too far down the transom? I wish I had some pictures to share with you, but none at the moment that would show that angle. I should back at the boat Sunday and if I remember will try to open the bimini up and take some for you

Thank you all! This is a rail mounted Bimini due to the limitations of the gunnel designed specifically for the 34. Dave at SBO sent me photos that appear to have the Bimini about 6” beyond the rail. I’d love to be able to move the radar pole (and limit how far down the transom to the bare minimum) before the Bimini arrives. Artey1 that’s good info so I’ll probably go about 6-7” beyond the rail. Any additional photos or measurements would be much appreciated!

If your radar pole does not interfere with the bimini frame it's simple enough to have the canvas cut around and a zipper or velcro installed to close the aperture around the pole and to the side or back of the bimini. Pix 01 A shows the upper side of the bimini with the black velcro for the solar panels. On left and right side you'll see a zipper and velcro going to the rear of the bimini. That allows installation around the double back-stay and the funnel like piece is velcroed around the back-stay preventing water ingress. Pix 03 A shows the inside part of the bimini (i.e above your head). The zippers and pockets are clearly visible. Good luck.
