I have purchased a Raytheon 18" Radar Randome and am not sure the best way to mount it on the boat. I'm not to keen on the backstay mounting because it just doesn't seem like a good idea to add any extra weight to the rig itself. Don't want to mount on the mast due to sail wear and having to extend and split the cable. I guess I'm down to adding a tower to the stern. If anyone has done this can you give me an idea on where exactly I should mount the tower. Any help would be appreciated.

My radar

I bought my H-34 used and it came with a radar that is mounted on a post on the port side aft of the seat. Its sort of outof the way there but I have a problem when trying to lay my mast on the deck for winter storage(leaving the rigging on) and also, it can be of concern when having the boat lifted by a traveller...make sure it will fit okay in the lift at your marina!

Radar on a post

When I bought my H34 83, it had a Furuno on a 6' painted aluminium post, exterior of the stern port side rail, right on the corner, attached to the deck with a U shape flat stainless bracket, with a hole in the center to get the wire under, into the aft cabin, to the panel. The bracket had a bolt thrue the post that could make it swivel and down on the deck. There was another U shape stainless steel bolt, that looked like a bow eye on runabout to attach the post to the stern rail and that old there for years as told me the last owner that had that boat since 83 on the shore of Boston. Last year, I had a stainless steel arch made for my boat with solar panel brackets, wind turbine, dinghy davits, radar bracket and bimini frame, I am one of the not so lucky that had their boat damaged by Floyd in september at Monty's Bay, and the arch is so damaged that can't be fixed, only replaced. Now the cost of this year's same arch would be 38% more. So I decided I'll go back with the post that I have kept and will see for the future. Good luck, best sailing, and feel free to reply André Wind Sririt 3, Lake Champlain, NY P.S. For those of lake Champlain, I own Wind Spirit 3, a H34 that as his light blue lines and pacific blue canvas change to captain navy with dodger and bimini.
