There is a recent thread linked below that started a conversation about whether there really is a model 333 Hunter. There is a 333 group in Boat info that has registered users saying they own one but is a 333 really the 33.5 model.

Does anyone know for sure?

Have you looked in the archives under information supplied by Eddie breeden and Jim Seamons (deceased). @Phil Herring might tell where you can locate that. That will be the last I can think of unless you contact owners or lookbon the internet

Honestly how much fun would it be to do an early morning (misty) sail in a bigfoot suit. Bettey yet a regahtta of boats with each skipper in a bigfoot suit.

Did a google immage search. Does not look like it has been done yet. I think SBO should sponsor the sasquath slough race.... The entry fee would be a bigfoot suit and an SBO burgee on your boat. There is some swampy areas in the NC outerbanks that would be a perfect backdrop....

So being “Covid bored“ and trying to solve one of life’s greatest mystery’s I have gathered the following data.

@BigEasy has a theory that the 333 and 33.5 are identical and that might be true given this marketing blurb from Hunter. Note however that the LOA is 33’ 4” so NOT 33’ 3” or 33’ 5” or if you think of .5 in the 33.5 model as 1/2 a foot it’s not 33’ 6” either :)

Given Hunter’s model naming scheme is “sort of” based on LOA the data for the 33.5 on sailboatdata seems to match 333 as its LOA is 33.33 so is better than the actual 333 numbers????? The answer is out there somewhere ;)

No such thing. It did not exist in the 80s and 90s when no one had heard of it so it must be a new creation in the 2000s out of a mistake when one was registered. Probably an h33.5.

The link to the SBO archive of Hunter info is here:

After looking through it I couldn’t find a manual for a 333 OR a 33.5???

I did find a brochure for the 33.5

and the 333-33.5 item I showed above.

There are multiple copies of the 33.5 owners manual in the SBO Boat info although I don’t know if they are accurate.

There is no 333 manual in the SBO Boat info, however there are 10 owners listed???

The mystery continues??? :)

The brochure photos attached above show a later model 33.5, likely 1990 or after. The 1988 model 33.5 had a reverse walk thru transom with no swim platform. The forward cabin was also lower. The later models incorporated a walk thru transom and sort of a swim platform with molded in seats. The forward cabin was also raised to provide more headroom in the head/shower/lavatory areas as well as the forward V berth. Portlight configuration on the cabin sides were also changed. The interior design remained basically unchanged.

So the myth is starting to look BUSTED! :)

It does raise another question though ;)

Why did Hunter use the word LEGEND in some of their model names? :)
[/QUOTE]
Don’t know why LEGEND was used on some models, but I do know that the 33.5 was not included in the Legend series. Must have been the black sheep of the family.

I cannot remember a 333 but the comment of a Bigfoot race or something like that in the North Carolina swamp, be my guest. You will find Cotton Mouth snakes galore. I may be Crazy but not stupid.
