I have a 2005 Hunter 33. When sailing, green water is coming in from the shower sump. Does anyone else have this problem? Do I need to install a check valve between the sump pump and the thru hull to prevent? I can not locate a shutoff valve anywhere.

I did locate the shutoff valve. It is closed but water in the line keeps backing up onto floor when heeling.....

The shower sump, at least on my 2006, drains into a separate pump in the bilge just outside the head door. The drain from the pump is directly overboard and I think that it is above the closet in the aft cabin. That is probably where you found the shut off. If there is a shut off there you should open it and run the sump pump to expel the fluid, possibly antifreeze, overboard. nothing comes back in on my boat even though the rail has been in the water a few times.

It should be: sump, check valve, pump, seacock. You don't care if there's water in the line between the pump and the seacock, but you don't want any water coming back in the line between the sump and the pump.

That's the problem. It's bleeds back through the pump and back to top of drain. Then when heeling, it spills out on the floor.

Is it water coming back in while you're sailing, if so check on top of the closet in the aft cabin. There should be a small box in the corner with a label Sump Drain. Pull the box out, it's loose, and there should be a valve there to close off the thru-hull.

I do get water that backs up from the hose and a small puddle in the floor of the head. I usually just run the pump a few extra times then mop up the excess on the floor.
