Hello Hunter Boaters. I recently bought a used 2005 Hunter 33. Great boat. I have found a problem when we moved it to a new slip. The boat has a Yanmar 29 diesel and has Lewmar pedestal mounted, engine controls. The hub of the control has a button that keeps falling out and a black rubber gasket that falls out with it. Please give me some insight as to what is up here. I am guessing the button is some kind of release that must be depressed to shift. I am about to take the whole assembly apart. Suddenly asking seemed like a great idea. I went to the Lewmar web sight and could not identify the same engine control. Any Ideas?

Engine Controls

If this is the same set up as we have on our Hunter, the button must be depressed in order to increase the RPM's of the engine while keeping the transmission in neutral. Even though our boat is new from Hunter, we have the same problem with the black rubber gasket falling out, followed by the metal pin. On our model it is not necessary to depress the button to shift from forward to neutral to reverse. Good Luck.

Exactly what Jeff said....

I also have the 33, with the same problem. Really have to keep an eye on the little sucker.

Button is to

disengage the transmission. Press it in while increasing the engine rpm. I use to idle/warm up the engine at around 1200 rpm before leaving the slip. I tried using rubber cement and it still popped out. There must be a way to keep it in. I can see the pin falling out and scooting right out the back.... Jim S/V Java

Glue

Same problem. I used some thickened instant glue to fasten outer rubber cover. Worked for two years now. Never need to push it much.

Super glue or silicon for Lewmar neutral button

I contacted Lewmar customer service about this a couple weeks back since my button and plunger also kept falling out. Lewmar uses Super Glue. I actually used a lot of silicon this time, but if that doesn't hold then I'll try the Super Glue.

3M Works For Me

A very small amount of 3M automotive trim adhesive (available at body shop supply stores) spread around the inner lip works for me. Have a great day all!

Thanks

Wow....I would have never gotten that kind of reply from Hunter or Lewmar. Sounds like Lewmar has a bug on its hands and we have to deal with it. I will take a tube of silicone or Krazy glue with me to the boat this weekend. Thanks again. I will keep an eye on the forumns and try to return the favor.
