Hunter 310 Bivalve, Md
Hi Peggy, and all. I'm re hosing my Hunter 310. I've run Trident 101 everywhere but the tank vent and vented loop. I've replaced the Jabsco head with a PHII compact. My questions are:

If I'm getting rid of the sea water feed and using the sink fresh water flush method, do I need a vented loop? I don't understand why.

I've run the 101( no small task since its much thicker that the original "lawrance???" hose)just as original. I had the same problem with my Oday. The waste hose leaves the toilet and rises 6" or more for about 18" then runs down hill for 5' to the top of the holding tank. This traps waste water in the first 18"s of hose. If I drill a hole in the sink cabinet and run the pipe exposed for 2' or more into the sink, I could run down hill, with very little slope for 5' to the holding tank. This would be ugly but I think better.

I'm also trying to design an easier way to divert water to the head, any new ideas besides valves under the sink. I need it easy for a 6yr old, who instantly has to go upon boarding :)

Thanks

You do need a vented loop in the intake (it belongs between the pump and the bowl), 'cuz it has to be at least 6-8" above waterline AT ANY ANGLE OF HEEL...which puts it 2-3' above the bowl on most sailboats...much higher than the sink.

The waste hose leaves the toilet and rises 6" or more for about 18" then runs down hill for 5' to the top of the holding tank. This traps waste water in the first 18"s of hose...

Not if you learn how to use the dry mode to do more than just empty the last of the water from the bowl. Your new PHC wll have no trouble whatever pushing bowl contents past that first 18" in the dry mode...and the good news is, gravity will do the rest, greatly reducing the amount of flush water needed. Btw...if you always add a couple of cups of water to the bowl ahead of solids, the bowl will be much cleaner...requiring much less flush water. You'll find more about how to use the dry mode if you search the discussions in this forum.

It couldn't get much easier than just teeing the head intake line into the sink drain line just above the thru-hull. That's all there is to it...you don't need any valves. Use sea water to flush--the toilet will have no trouble pulling it in--same as before. Nor will there be any difference in using the sink...it'll drain as it always has. You'll only use fresh water to rinse the sea water out of the system before the boat will sit...and that's simple too: just close the seacock, fill the sink with clean fresh water...flush.

You really should spend some time reading the discussions in the HM forum...all this has been covered there many times over the years...you'll learn a lot. And you might also consider checking out the link in my signature.
