I'm a new '97 310 owner myself, and although I don't have a windlass, I briefly considered installing one (ended up ruling it out, since we always anchor in water that is only 6 - 10 feet). Anyway, from what I could gather, the "standard" windlass for the 310 was the Simpson Lawrence Sprint 500. Although it reportedly fits fine in the anchor locker, I was told that you do have to help the chain along as it's being pulled in, since there's not enough of a drop for it to fall properly without help (and that eliminated the other reason I was considering a windlass... making it easier to pull up the anchor while single-handing).
