Hunter 31 pump-out

Some time ago I asked for advice about the pump-out on my early 80's Hunter 31. I ccomplained that none of the fitting adapters on the pump-out boat would work with my deck fitting. Several folks suggested an adapter of some kind. I've checked the deck fitting again, and there are no threads. The cap is plastic and has a star-shaped recess in the centre that fits a winch handle. The 'threads' are very coarse, and there are only two. The actual pump-out fitting is smooth, slightly tapered, and seems to be attached to a ribbed hose about 6-8 cm down. Further suggestions? Do I have to obtain some sort of bayonet fitting that will fit the pump-out boat? Thanks in advance.

Check out the catalogs!

Ian: The West Marine catalog has 3 fittings. One of them is listed as Pre-1995. They has have a fitting (no in this catalog ) that is just a rubber fitting that they hold in place when pumping. This is sort of a universal fitting (we have this at our pump out station). You could also change the deck fitting . The units run from about $25 - 45 and you will be done with the problem. The only real problem is getting the new unit fitted to the hose and reinstalling it.

One more time...

You can buy a neoprene "universal" pumpout adapter (cost is about $15 or less US)...a tapered "cone" that you just jam into the deck pumpout fitting and hold it there. SeaLand has one...if you can't find it, give 'em a call at 800-331-9886 to order one. Or, as Steve suggested, you can replace your deck pumpout fitting with one that's common. Cost: about $25USD.
