Hi my name is Brad. I own a 1984 Hunter 31 named Sand Dollar out of St Augustine. I wanted information on the muffler. When I go out I have water inside the hull around the muffler when I get back. Is the muffler rusting out or a connection leaking? Is the muffler replaceable and if so where do I get one? any help or information would be appreciated!

Brad: The muffler on the H'31 was part of the hull on the original boats. You may want to see if there is something going on with the exhaust hose or the connection to the muffler box. There could just be crack in the box that is allowing water infiltration when you are underway.

From your description, I assume that there is no problem when just sitting at the dock. Where is the water accumulating?

On the top of the muffler box and runs down into the Bilge. Yes it is fine at the dock for weeks. Yes it does look like it is molded into the deck insert. would you think a guy could put glass resin around the inlet and out let tubes. It just looks like it is a box to accumulate water before the exhaust gases exit the hull.

I have an 83. Yup that's what the water muffler does. Check your exhaust hoses and the points they connect to. There is one that goes into the muffler and one that goes out. I recently replaced my hoses. The one that goes out is tough to reach. Can you see where the water is coming from when the engine is running? If the muffler is cracked I would expect that you could repair the crack with a fiberglass repair
