I am thinking of buying a Hunter 31. I know they started around 1984. How long did they make them? I am limited to 4 ft. draft. I am looking for the pros and cons of this boat. I have heard the early ones could use a little more aux power. How do they compare with the newer 1989 30' I do a little club racing and thought this boat might fare better than the newer wider models. Any info would be of help.

I like my 83

1983 to 1987. I have the 1983 deep draft version which is supposed to be 5'3", but it is more like 5'10" with tanks full and beer & ice in the icebox. The deep keel version is relatively fast, and points high when the rigging is properly tuned. The shallow draft probably doesn't point as well. This boat is well worth the going price.

H31 Draft not 4'

We own H31 hull #58 (1983). I am trying to get a list of all the h31's i can. Our draft, not heavily loaded is about 4' 9" and loaded we call it 5'. Endless Summer is a great boat. We motored down the Intracoastal Waterway from Virginia to the Florida keys in 1986, and lived aboard there for two years. We are planning to spend about 6 months aboard her in the Bahamas - leaving south Florida in mid-late November 1999. Good luck, Roger and Susie Mummah remumah@worldnet.att.net

Hunter 31,1984-?

I have a 1984 H31 that my wife and I bought new. The draft we chose is 5ft3in but we always consider 6ft for navigation and beer supply purposes. We lived aboard in Vancouver B.C. for over 4 yrs and loved every minute of it. I highly recommend a Hunter 31 as it is a good all round sailing boat. My sister and brother and law bought one after they spent a weekend with us. We have had our Hunter for 15 yrs now and the only reason we haven't moved up to a bigger one is simply that we enjoy our 31 too much. If you need a shallower draft then consider a newer wing keel boat. After all, it worked for Australia in 83. regards
