Hunter 30T Interior Size

Catalina Capri 22 Baytown
I am currently looking to move up in boat size. Right now I have a Capri 22, which is great to get out sail for the day, but very limited if I want to do anything overnight ... especially convincing my wife to join.

I have looked at several boats and one that falls in my price range that seems to be a very efficient layout is the Hunter 30T. I have found reviews on a lot of its features, how it sails, etc. but the one thing that is hard to get insight on (and I can't find one in the Houston area) is the interior size. More specifically headroom and the size of the beds. I am 6'3" so bed size could be a significant factor, headroom less so. This wouldn't be for extended cruising (at least not at first) so it doesn't have to be luxurious, just doable for a couple of nights.

Anyone have experience with this model? TIA

What year is it? I am not sure what the "T" stands for
edit: never mind. It's the model after the Cherubini's I believe. I can't help you with the interior of the "t" but I am 6'5" and very pleased with the headroom and v-berth size on my "c" version.

Lone Star, The Hunter 30 is a great boat. Had a close friend that owned a 1993 version and I sailed with him many times. It's a well proportioned boat and sails quite well. At 6'3" you may find the head room a bit tight but doable. You may also want to give some thought to the size of the head. Showering and others personal concerns will be a bit tight in there. I sail a 1993 H335 and find none of those concerns. We stepped up from a H26 to our present boat 12 years ago and haven't had "Two Footitest" since. Good luck with your search.

Your gonna have to sleep in aft berth because the forward is only 5' long and only good for kids or one short adult but dine table folds down to make an extra sleep area 6' long aft cabin is 8' long and I added shelf to end of bed and still have room to spare

We sold a 30g last year we'd owned for ten years. This T model has an update deck mold, with possibly more headroom, but otherwise the same as the G model. I'm 6'5", and my two sons are both over 6'. I could stand in the galley and head, and slept in the long aft berth. My sons could sleep in the v berth and port settee, but only my wife could sleep on the dinette. I found the boat tight but very manageable for week long cruises. The worst issue for my height was finding a place for my big feet when kneeling down working on the engine.

I recommend seriously considering this boat. For the price it is probably one of the few with that much room below, an open transom for swimming and boarding the dinghy, and reasonable sailing performance.

We love our 30T. I'm 5'11". You are at the max headroom limit but after a 22....
The rear berth is very roomy. It's mostly why we chose one over a Catalina. Make sure you get A/C for Houston ! There are many pics online of the interior.
There has been much discussion on the "T" designation. I subscribe to the T shaped cockpit explanation.

We had a '91 30T for 7 years. Nice boat and the interior head room near the mast was 6'4". At 6'2" I could move around the cabin without problem. I did lots of work on this boat including installation of air conditioning. There is an original sales brochure on the M-H website for the 30T. I'll post it if I can find my copy. Dan

We sailed our '91 30T for 7 years... nice boat. At 6'2" I could walk the interior no problem. The max near the compression post is 6'4". The aft berth is easily over 7' wide. I did a lot of work on that boat, including installing a split AC unit.
BTW, when we sold her, a '91 30G was in the slip next to our 91' 30T at the dealer. Apparently the T and G model overlapped one year in production. The dealer verified it was a '91 30G. The M-H site has the original sales brochure for the T. I'll post it if I can find it. Dan

We like ours but built a new table. We couldn't get around the table (and I'm not that fat, really.)
I made it a couple inches smaller and rounded the corners. Now it's well suited for us.

nice work Ken and good idea... our table was supported by arms attached to a sleeve that clamped to the compression post. i assume you removed that for this support? dan

Last months Practical Sailor had a great article/review of the H30. Overall great boat.
