Can anyone help with the proper configuration for the reef lines on a 306? I'm not sure if I re-rigged the lines correctly this spring after stowing the sails last winter. (My first boat and first dry dock, took pictures but not all that I needed). The main goes up but is very hard to hoist without first creating some slack in the lines by pulling the reef lines through the boom before raising. Thanks

The lines are probably correct

You've probably rigged the lines correctly. If you are pulling in the reef lines after you drop the sail, stop doing that. Just let them hang, and stuff any lines falling into the cockpit into the aftermost sail tie. If you pull them tight after you drop, you will be fighting tremendous friction to get the sail back up. We have often discussed the pros and cons of single-line reefing systems on this board, and the friction you are encountering is an undisputed "con." Check your owners manual, there is often a reef-line diagram in there. Here's a link to the diagram for my 336, you can get the idea from that. Be advised that not all Hunter reef lines are rigged the same way. 356s have a couple of blocks inside the boom, for example.

Thanks

The link you provided is much better than my owners manual. I have the line tied to the sail, not the boom, so I have additional friction. Will change it this weekend. Thanks again.
