I'm trying to reinstall the self tacking genoa on my Hunter30. It was removed by the previous owner. Can anyone supply information on how it is rigged?
Self tacking jibs are standard on Hunter Horizon 30 and 27. Mine has the bracket removed because it was set up for racing. The trade off, I think, is a smaller sail area vs ease of sailing. Since I single hand a lot I'm going to reinstall it. What I don't know is how it's rigged. Specifically where the blue line goes.
The blue line looks like the jib sheet to me. If so, it should go to a turning block forward of the mast, then back to a winch at the front of the cockpit. The loop of the blue sheet (going toward the bottom of the picture) goes through a block on the clew of the jib.
Self tack limits you to 100 jib or less. If you have autopilot you can use the auto-tack feature and deal with the jib. Depends on the boat, 100 or less jib is not much fun single hand or not. I single hand tack a 150 all the time with no problem with the help of my 2nd mate Auto.
