Hunter 30 mast step problem

I'm looking at buying an '81 H30 which has some rust at the base of the mast post. Can those of you who have some experience with the problem answer 2 questions for me?1. how bad is too bad? 2. if it's not too far gone, what's the best way to bring it back to spec and prevent future deterioration?Thanks,Dave...

David, If you're interested in an '81 H30, stop by my slip(F21L). Been kickin' around the idea of sellin for a while. Don't believe you'll find any rust on this one. Should be up there tomorrow or Sunday.
