Thanks for that.
Obviously you are a pragmatist. Your report is pretty much exactly what I have calculated and it is entirely free of the starry eyed claims made by other users (and vendors of electric propulsion systems). The replacement cost of batteries is interesting as it probably exceeds the cost of an equivalent amount of diesel.

I guess your boat lives in a marina between outings!

A range of 12nm under power in mild conditions is just unacceptable.

@Donalex - thx - I don't have any interest in promoting it beyond it's real capacities, so I'm glad that came out.

@Benny - Well, not where I am in San Francisco bay - and I don't exit the Gate. Besides, here we can just wait 4 hours and go either direction at 3knots with the tides :)

You can get more range using lithium batteries - they are in fact cheaper than lead-acid now if you factor in lifetime costs - but a bank large enough to give say..20NM range would be in the neighborhood of $4K (including BMS systems, chargers, etc). A lot of e-boaters park a Honda genny on deck for longer trips.

But for bays, lakes, other protected waters it can be pretty ideal.
