Hi, I just purchased a 1990 Hunter30 in Seattle and am bringing it home to Powell River next week. My question is mast height, the specs say 50ft. Is that the spar length itself or is that the height of the top of the mast from the waterline? I need to know I have a bridge on the Port Townsend Canal that has 58ft and I am going under it at HHMW for some strange reason. Many thanks

50 ' is from the waterline

I slipped under that bridge with a 35.5 once at low water... wouldn't want to do it again. The 35.5 mast is 55', I recall the bridge is 56'? You should be OK, but is there any way you can hold off and do it when the water isn't so high?

Dont I wish, but coming from Lake Union and on my way to Port Townsend for the night. I will get there about 4PM and need the time before dark to get there from the bridge. Just curious tho, is the 50ft number from the deck or the waterline.

Hi Brock, not sure why you feel the need...

to go through the canal and into Port Townsend. There are several mooring balls at Fort Warden just north of the entrance to town. Nice place to stay for the night as opposed to the marina. What route do you plan on taking to get to Powell River? If I were doing it I would probably head from Fort Warden to Turn Island, just outside of Friday Harbor. Several mooring balls there, too. Then on to Bedwell for customs clearance. Terry

Its a boys trip

I just bought the boat and this is the trip home for it. 2 of us are bringing it back and would really like to hit the local pubs for dinner and drinks. Mooring bouys would mean cooking and dishes. After this trip I hope to never spend another night at a dock but this is special. Day 2 I plan for Friday hbr (good pubs good food) and Ganges for night 3. Bedwell hbr Customs closes Oct 1 so will have to clear at Nanaimo.
