Hello Hunter owners, I have a 1994 Hunter 29.5 with an Edson steering column which has the traveler mounted on top. I need to take the top portion off to troubleshoot my Autohelm disply which is mounted facing the helmsman just below the traveler. Do I need to take the grabrail loose from the cockpit floor or can I get it apart by taking out the machine screws going through the grabrail and those along the lower edge of the steering column cap? Any tips? If there are any nuts on the bolts, I can't see them. Thanks, Frank Weeks

Try this

Take all the screws out around the top piece of fiberglass so that you can pick up the top and set it slightly askew to get into the pedestal. Yes, that includes unscrewing the rail. Be careful not to overtighten when rescrewing.

The grab rail

on my '94 29.5 was attached to the deck with two pins with cotter rings through fittings on the deck. Pull the pins and lift the whole grab rail out before taking the top off the steering pedistal.
