Is there a general rule of thumb for tensioning the rig on a Hunter 29.5 used mostly as a day sailer? The manual is instructive but a bit vague on this point. Using a Loos gauge, our rig has been set to the following:

Main shroud 16%
Lower shroud 11%
Diamond 9%

We just set up our mast two weeks ago and I was wondering the same question. The manual says until no more tension can be apply end without exceptional force. It would be helpful if there was a tension value in the specs. If anyone has more information on this it would be appreciated.

I just went by the book, with weight hanging on the main halyard, mid way mark at the 4" it recommends, don't have the book in front of me at the moment but the lower measurement was like 12" to 16". I kept it closer to 12".
I ended up with a gain on the forestay turnbuckle of about an inch. sails a lot better fwiw
I have a 155% headsail for the 29.5. looking for a sheet length, any idea? Yes I can measure but that will be a while before I get back to the boat.

The manual specs 56 feet of 7/16 low stretch Dacron line for the Jib Sheets ( one piece ). Burnt on both ends. They don't spec. anything for larger jibs than the original as they don't recommend them for the 29.5.

Do you know what the tension on your rigging is? Or did you just set it as described in the manual?
