I was looking at a Hunter 29.5, but was put off by the low headroom in the forward V berths and the under cockpit aft berth. Anyone use these for cruising (overnight at least) or is it just being used as a day sailer? If cruising, do you sleep alone or with your wife?

Room enough

We spend weekends aboard with 2 adults and 2 kids. I'm 6 foot and "we" fit just fine in the aft berth. You can sit upright against the port hull and read, or slide down for sleep. As for head room in the V-berth..well if you are over 10 card playing is not allowed except at the table. Bring you money to the table Maverick! It has gotten a wee bit more crowded as the kids have grown-but hey, wadda you expect for less than 30ft of boat?

Great cruising boat

We took ours from the Chesapeake to Florida on a 7 month cruise. Use it for 2-7 day cruises on a regular basis. Enough room for 2 adults and a small dog. Had a custom matress made for the aft berth which makes sleeping a real pleasure (for two). We use the v-berth for storage. The 29.5 works well for us - it's a great cruising boat with a roomier cockpit than a lot of 40 footers.

Big enough

I'm 5-10 and my wife is 5-7. We started by removing the curtains to fore and aft, which opened up the boat visually. She prefers the bow and I the aft. In an unrelated matter, I removed the short shelf under the aft cabin and put in a shelf twice as deep to hold two spinnakers in their chutes. Very efficient, especially since the cushions aren't installed except during summer when we cruise. The chutes run right out the bow hatch. Having moved up from a 25 Catalina with its tiny fore berth and coffin-like aft berth, I greatly appreciate the larger 29.5 space.

YES.

OWNED A 29.5 (1994) FOR 2 YEARS NOW. THE FRONT BERTH IS TIGHT BUT I USE THE AFT WITH MY GIRLFRIEND FOR STAYS OF 3 TO 5 DAYS WHILE SAILING THRU THE KEYS. YOU GET USED TO THE LIMITED SPACE QUICK. DON'T LOOK AT THE 450 AFT BERTH, IT WILL DRIVE YOU NUTS.

Great Cruiser

I own a 1994 29.5 and love it. Have owned for 2 years now and have made 2 6 day cruises as well as many overnights on the Chesapeake Bay. Easy to sail single handed. As far as I'm concerned the forward v-berth is the best place to sleep.
