Strongly suggest a surveyor look at any large boat you are considering buying.
Nice boat SailboatData.com - HUNTER 28 Sailboat but do not be disappointed, given its age if the sails and running rigging need replacing and some electronics and safety equipment need updating besides engine service and bottom paint. Find out from the seller what type of bottom paint was applied and when (request a copy of the painting contractor receipt, if possible) and details of last engine servicing (request a copy of the service record receipt, if possible), which is what I always do during a used boat purchase.

As suggested, get a marine survey AND engine and rigging surveys. Let the forum know what you decided, post pics if you purchase it and tell us about the survey findings.

Thank you, she was hauled out and had a mechanical inspection 2 years ago.
Insurance does not require a survey, insured her for 25k besides there’s not much to these boats. Common sense, plumbing, electrical and carpentry

Since you are in Long Beach, CA and your boat is in the water all year long might consider 2 coats of antifoulant paint.
I’m just starting to peel back the onion, more to come, I gotta get my Cal 25 sold! LOL!
I have a 91 Hunter 28 (about to sell her though since I just bought another boat). She's been a solid boat, very reliable. Things to check: the fuel tank - apparently a number of owners have had to cut out the aft bulkhead (in the aft cabin) to pull out and fix/replace especially if the fuel tank is made of metal (mine is polyethylene). So check to make sure it's not leaking. Also the waste pump hose was leaking when I bought mine (to pump waste overboard), and the waste through-hull was stuck shut. These and other things will be revealed in the survey though.
