Hello Folks,

Going to replace the life lines before she goes back in the water next Spring. Removed the upper lines by sliding them through the stanchions... but the lower lines won't slide. They seem to be captured by something inside of the stanchions so they won't slide... is that true? If so, how do you remove them for replacement?

Thanks,

The only thing that comes to mind is something I read a little while ago. Some guy had a similar problem and found out that the bow and stern cable swaged fittings were of different sizes. He was able to remove the cable and fitting from the other end. I hope this helps.

Linelines, even on 'production' boats, are often cut to fit. I would not be surprised if the cable was threaded thru before the fitting was swaged on. If that's the case and the hole thru the stanchion is too small, you might have to cut it.

I went down to the marina to see what they were talking about and discovered that someone had packed what appears to be JB Weld around the life lines. They packed it in pretty good, for whatever stupid reason. As she is under shrink wrap for the winter I'm going to have to wait until Spring to deal with it... quite a mess. Thanks for the thoughts shared...
