I am considering the purchase of a mid 80's Hunter 28.5 in the near future. As I read the original brochure for the boat, it states that there is a "shower".

Does anyone know if this is a shower head on the outside of the boat to wash off, or is this a shower head that is located in the lavatory meant to actually take a shower?? I walked on a 28.5 a week ago and I don't recall seeing a shower head in the lavatory.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Shower in the head

The shower is located in the head, via a hand-held / flexible hose T'd off the sink faucet (see attached photo). The shower head is usually hung on the Nav Station bulkhead, partially hidden by the folding head door.

It'll be a cold shower unless you've a) been running the engine and have the water heater plumbed through the heat exchanger or b) you are connected to 110 v shore power and have the heater turned on.

It's tight quarters, the shower drains into the bilge via a flexible hose run through the floor grid, so make sure your bilge pump is fully functional.

5-years of owning a 28.5, 2 sessions with the shower; the first to prove the systems worked, the 2nd an emergency-late-for-a-meeting-gotta-look-presentable situation. Perhaps it's been worth it, perhaps not.

Re: Shower in the head

Very helpful post and picture. Obviously not an everyday shower that I will rely on!!

Its not really a want to have shower- i don't like getting the entire head wet or soapy, or get the nice teaky drop over seat wet/soapy. Further and more to the point- At least on my mid 80's H28.5 the drain doesn't go via pipe directly to the bilge- there is no bathwater collection sump with its own bilge pump. It just goes to the underboards/between the ribs area etc. You are asking for a biofilm problem bigtime if that soapy stuff sits in the lowers of the hull sections.
So the last time we ever used it was when we pulled the hose/shower head out thru the port and hosed down my 2 yr old on deck- a long time ago.
