Hunter 28.5 Head & Quarterberth Hatch Replacement AND Side Saloon Windows

I need to replace 3 of the "Grey Enterprises" plastic hatches on my 1985 Hunter 285.
I'd like to replace them with aluminum vs the plastic.
Anyone found a DROP-IN replacement for these rectangular side hatches in the head and the quarterberth?

I also need to replace the somewhat trapezoidal shaped windows in the main cabin. Mine have white plastic exterior frames that are all busted up. I've seen a few frameless applications that looked terrific and had a much cleaner shape. Any advice?

Thanks

Steve

Steve, I replaced my trapazoid windows last year and they look fabulous. I had Mark Plastics in CA cut me new ones. I measured the old ones and added 1/2 inch all around as to cover the part of the opening that wouldn't clean up. I think the bigger windows look better anyway. Then I used 3m vhb tape to hold them in place sealed with Dow 795. There is much discussion on the forum of this method. The windows look great and make my boat look 10 years newer IMHO.

Can you send me a snapshot of your windows? I may be able to help.
Hi Jeff. Thanks for the offer. Photos attached. I'm trying to find drop in ALUMINUM replacement portlight hatches AND some photos of the trapezoidal main cabin windows being replaced without the white plastic frames.

For the portlights, I'm having trouble finding a product that's lighter duty since I'm on an inland lake and don't require bluewater heft and construction along with the expense.

Thanks.

Steve

Hi,

Am going through this same thing right now with our 28.5. The ports (windows) that you have are identical. We have a company that is making us a window replacement kit for the 28.5.

Please contact through personal message option on this site and I will send my contact information and that of the company.

They intend to offer a "kit" to everyone once the design is complete. The previous boat I owned that they make me a custom kit for in 2011 is still waterproof, has no window frame and works and looks very good.

Jeff

Steve, you might try going to the Pompanette.com website and clicking on the Bomar button at the bottom. This company has bought up several other over the past few years and may be able to supply you with what you need. Also, did you sort through the ports and hatches offered through the hunterowners parts?

Jeff, those windows look first rate! If you didn't tell me otherwise I would say they were OEM factory installed. I have seen a couple local boat owners that have done something similar but they used screws to attach them. That method just looks like a DIY hack job..........IMHO of course.

Nice job, really nice job!

Thanks Craig. I wish I could find some more close up shots. Mark Plastics did a very nice job of cutting the windows for me. If you notice, all the corners have a smooth radius cut and he put a bevel around the outside. That really gives it a nice finished look after I sealed it with Dow 795. I thought about using screws, but since I don't sail off-shore, I decided to use the VHB tape to hold it in place. No regrets yet.
