I am researching replacing the current Renault RS8D in my Hunter 27 with a Westerbeke 11A/one. Has anybody out there had ecperience with this. Will it fit? Any pictures? Where is the best place to purchase? Any other advise will be considered.

MikeT, I'm not sure if the Yanmar will fit but about two years ago I spoke to the Beta marine guys at the Annapolis boat show and they had repowered a 27, taking out the old Renault. I can't remember the engine size but it was something like a 12 or 15 hp. Apparently if fit just fine but the only difficulty was the output shaft of the transmission was a bit higher than the prop shaft. Might not hurt to give them a call. By the way, what are you doing with the Renault? Is it running? I could use some spare parts... Manny

HI Mike T, I have only been working on my hunter 27 for a week now , one place you might call for some more info, thats local, as in oklahoma and knows a lot about Hunter sailboats is Redbud Marina on lake Oologah ,Claremore OK. 918-341-5190 I called and was looking for a trailer, but he had a lot of advice and was a great help. my boat has a Yanmar 1 cylinder and i have no idea what condition it is in , cross that road later. I have started a web site ( not up yet, give it a week) NOT SELLING ANYTHING! just somthing for me to document the progress , Trials and misshaps during my work on my first sailboat, and stay on topic of the Hunter 27 75-84 . the site is www.sailingmissapril.com and at this stage i should be calling it Hopefully sailing miss april,,,but im Optimistic ! I would love to have as many other boats finished and well not done yet to help me and others in ideas for upgrades and compleating our boats. I hope to have it up after this weekend, just have to work some things out so their is NO popups, or banner ads, I hate those! Best of luck, and keep us informed. Markus

Cones are short
The only part I have been unable to find from the guy in the UK are the transmission clutch cones which look like they are finally sold out at the factory. They can apparently be re-machined at considerable expense. I think the 1GM10 is the Yanmar of chouice but have heard of other brands (poss cheaper) going in?

MikeT, I don't know what I was thinking when I mentioned Yanmar on my post when you said you where looking at a Westerbeke... *sry Anyway, have you tried calling Westerbeke? I bet they can tell you if it will fit. My friend has a Westerbeke in his Oday and he calls them ocassionally when he has questions. He gives them high marks for for customer service. I'm not sure which model he has but it is a twin cylinder (either 10 or 12 hp) and it looks like it should fit. The motor is real smooth and quiet. Manny I may be interested in the old Renault. Keep us posted.
