Can anyone tell me if a volvo single cyl. 12hp diesel will fit my 1980 fin keel 27 . The original engine was a renault 8hp .

Peter, be sure that it is in very good condition.

Peter:I am assuming that this is a used engine. You really want to be sure that this engine is in very good to excellent condition. Volvo engines tend to smoke quite a bit on start up. As far as parts are concerned, I have "heard" they are a little difficult to come by and not cheap.

Where are you putting the old Renault?

I'm sure you could offer up some parts from that old Renault right here. What is the condition of the original engine? You might go a short way toward financing the new engine by liquidating parts from the old one.

Volvo parts

I owned a boat wirh a 25hp Volvo. Was not happy with the engine and found the parts to be very veryyyyyyyyyyy expensive. Find a good used Yanmar 18. It will fit. I have one in my 81 Hunter 27.

I'm also interested in spare parts for my old Renault. So if you got the room, keep the old Renault and sell off the parts!
