Hunter 27' 1981 Muffler Size

I need to find a Inline Water Lift Muffler for a 1981 27' Hunter Cherubini. I only have about 5.5 inches of clearance where the muffler is installed (under the gas tank). The original muffler was 5.5 inches in diameter and about 19 inches long. It had a 2 inch input and output. Anything bigger then 5.5 inches in diameter will not fit. The smallest I have found is 6.38 from Centek.

Under the advice from Hunter I have an emial in to Centek, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and I they solved it. The old muffler is only a memory not, so reparing it is out of the question.

Primex Muffler

On my 1980 H30, I replaced the original SS muffler with one from Primex. It was abnout the same size and shape as the original. The Primex fiberglass replacement can be purchased from Marine Mufflers, part Number MC2. Call 407-886-1144.

I wanted to provide a conclusion to my post on the search for a Muffler.

My best leed (other than here and Google searches) was the This Old Boat Magazine Website. They had a search engine for goods and services. The one name that kept coming up everywhere was Centek Industries Inc., makers of the Vernatone and Vernalift marine mufflers. Although they did not have a stock muffler to fit my need, they were able to meet my size limitations for a water lock muffler with a custom fiberglass muffler for a little over $200. This included design specs and drawing.

They provided me great customer serivce even via email with pdf's for drawings. If you can't get a stock muffler to fit, try these guys. www.centekindustries.com

A few notes:
There were a couple other custome muffler guys out there but they were on the West Coast.
Based on everything I found, it looked like Marine Muffler closed or was sold. Still not sure.

Just one step closer to a 10 day Chesapeak Bay Cruise.
