I am considering purchasing a 1994 H260. One of the issues the boat has is a broken window on the port side. I have viewed where OEM windows are available for purchase, but there is no information about removing the old windows and installing the new ones. Has anyone done a window replacement that could shed some light on this for me?

I will be replacing my STRB large fixed window this spring. If you check the achieves you will see some good info. Dave is a great resource for sure. I had the window priced out at $140 plus $60 for shipping (this is in Canada). I would not have any customs or brokerage fees because the marina was going to have it shipped up with a new boat. I was worried about the tint not being the same as the other windows so I priced out a 4 x 8 sheet of acrylic and it will cost $220. For $70 I have a wood working shop going to cut out all the windows for me (it will also leave me with just under half a sheet leftover for some other projects; new companionway door:)). So now I am going to replace all the windows for an addition $90 an a lot more labor! I'll post some techniques I learned on how to actually remove and then install the new windows. I'm at work and will need to get it from my home computer. I'll be home in a week or so. Make sure you talk to Dave.

I decided not to purchase the boat with the broken window. Instead, I am purchasing another 1994 H26. Thanks for the responses. I am sure I will be using the knowledge of this forum in the near future!

Thanks Dave. I have an accepted offer on the boat pending a haul out and bottom check tomorrow. The boat has never had bottom paint applied. I know there are a few blisters near the bow waterline. I just want to see how bad the boat may be blistered. We had a couple of days of heavy rain here prior to my looking at the boat. There was a small amount of water in the port side locker just forward of the head bulkhead. I could see a brown water trail coming down the hull side inside the locker. This leads me to believe a seal is broken on the deck hardware somewhere. I am a big guy, and I walked the deck checking for soft spots. I didn't find any. I don't believe the core is rotten by any means, but I think I will need to rebed the deck hardware. Are there any particular areas that the H26 is prone to leaking?

I decided to pass on the boat because of the bottom being heavily blistered. The blisters didn't scare me as much as the boat would need to remain out of the water for the summer to dry out properly.

When a hull is badly blistered, the holes or pores have to be popped and allowed to dry if the hull if full chocked with them. Generally 6 weeks in the spring and summer season and 2 months or better during summer. The further south you go in warmer weather and the less drying time.

Many used moisture meters and even then I found some readings to be inaccurate. The best and old school was to take a piece of cellophane or plastic and completely tape it to the hull and return the following morning. No water behind it, and the hull was dry.

Of course part of the decision not to purchase was the unwillingness of the owner to bend on price; even with the bottom condition. I could have bought it and sailed it this summer, and then brought it home for the fall/winter to dry out and repair. I have a 30' X 40' workshop set up to work on boats. Ultimately it came down to price. Even doing the work myself I would have more in the boat than it would be worth, and I never try to do that! So my hunt continues.

You were right to pass on the boat. There possibibly is a I think a 1995 Hunter 26 with trailer and roller furling for sale that I originally sold and took care of and is being put into shape for sale by the owner. It has no motor. Contact me and I will talk to you about it and put you direct in touch with the owner. No I am not selling the boat for him nor will accept any commission. I am helping him out as a friend. By the way, he has a car repair shop but one that repairs the upper end of the spectrum to include Roles Royce as an example. So it should be in good shape.
