Hunter 260 swing keel drooping

Hi all, I just bought a 04 260. The swing keel droops at about a 45 degree angle with the retracting rope pulled full up. I was told that the rope had stretched and has been pulling the keel up a little bit less over the last couple of years. Has anyone else had this happen, or know anything about it. I'm going to get it fixed. Just wondering what I may be looking at. Thanks

Regardless of rope or what I call line, stretching has nothing to do with that. If you do replace it, only 7/16 inch line NOT 1/2.

Your problem is the line that is on top of the cabin or may be growth/barnicales in the centerboard housing as I was not sure of your description. First see if there is anything interfering in the centerboard housing. While looking, make sure there is nothing going on with the centerboard bracket. If all is ok, then the line on top needs to be adjusted.

Please check and if you can take photos of the centerboard housing area and post them. Then we can go from there. I was a dealer heavily involved with the 260. If you want, send them to me as well to davecondon@mindspring.com

Kermit had a problem which I had pointed out.

Thanks Dave! I am new to sailing. Never sailed a day in my life. But, will learn and become proficient in the next 2 years. My wife and I plan on doing the great loop in March 2017, it's the reason I bought the boat after months of searching . I wanted a sailboat because mainly of gas mileage since the majority of the loop is under power. I see a number of loopers are doing it on sailboats now, both with and without masts, many are smaller than ours ! So I really appreciate the advice from someone so well versed with the 260. I'm sure I will have a few more questions. Merry Christmas to you and yours from Prudi and me.

Seriously. Do that. This will be the best investment in time you can make. Dave has explained to me many times why he gives back to sailors. I still marvel at his generosity and knowledge.
Done, thanks

Problem appears to be a matter of readjusting the cascade line based on discussion with the boat. I have advised purchasing a 20 foot section of 3/8 inch line and for now leaving the 7/16 inch line alone as the 2004 Hunter 260 has been in fresh water only if there is no obstruction seen underneath.
