I have a new 260 and we had the first rain today since I purchased the boat. Unfortunately I have a major leak on the starboard side companionway plexiglas slider trough. It looks like there is a low spot in the surface the plexiglass slides on allowing water to leak through. The water ran down the ceiling and onto the galley cabinet and then down to the cushion and into the cooler well and down onto the cabin floor as well. It was about a quart of water from one decent rain. I put up a tarp over the boom as there is more rain in the forecast for tomorrow and this week. I plan on calling the dealer on Monday. Any recommendations on how this should be fixed? Soggy in N.C.

I have the same problem

I have had my new boat for two months and have the same problem. I also tarp. I found a product called hatch tape at West Marine that I may try.If you hear of anything else, please let me know.

Not a fix, but an idea

I do not know if this is a design flaw, or bad luck on a couple of boats. However, there is a fairly simple way to minimize the problem. Along with other canvas, you can get somethng called a "companionway cover". Basically, it is a piece of canvas that is made to cover the companionway, starting at the cockpit bottom, up the front of the opening, then a right angle to let it follow the cabin top. A couple of snaps hold it in place. This does nothing to fix the real problem, but if you are faced with having to live with the leak, it should help minimize it. It sure beats coming back to your boat after a long week away and finding it full of water!

Hey, wait a minute! Didn't you say that you just bought this boat? What about the Hunter warranty? We are dealing on a new Hunter 290 and I am concerned that the two page warranty I was given to read covers little else than the hull and gelcoat. Don't the dealers / manufacturers back up things like your leak problem?
