So has anyone had to replace the original?

I'd like to find something which fit in the same space and has the same kind of utility, since at least right now it's sufficient for my needs.

Has anybody put in a replacement without modifications?

I found the original cooler had almost no insulation so it would not keep ice very long and would have condensation on the outside in warmer weather. I just replaced mine with a Coleman 5 day model that fits in the space perfect, however because it is a 5 day model it has insulation so it can not hold as much food.

I added a cooler drain on my boat, a short hose from the cooler drain through a ball valve to a T installed on the drain for the sink, makes lfe much easier on a longer cruise. (I added extra hose clamps and insulation to the hose since the picture was taken.)

I am looking for a cooler style refrigerator that will fit into the space. The Engle units I have looked into are too tall. I was looking at the floor of the cooler space yesterday to see if I could easily lower it, appears to be intergrated into the shelves so would be a lot of work in a tight space. I would be interested if anyone has found a proper fridge that fits in this space.

Guys, can't help with the cooler as we use a colman cooler that works OK for a weekend but it a has a lot of wasted space around. if anyone finds a 12v Cooler that fits in that place, please post. Was even thinking of insulating and sealing/draining the space, but seems to defeat our purpose of packing the food at home.

I've been searching too. Looked at WM and think an Igloo Marine Elite Cooler, 72qt., 16.5"W x 29.5"L x 16.13"H WM#10393759 on sale for $64 just might squeeze in the slot although the ht might be a 1/10" too high. I'll pick one up and try it after work.

Sorry for the delay but yes/no is the best I can say. The 72qt igloo from West Moron is the absolute largest retail cooler possible in this fixed spot.

It's usable if: you change the front latch to a top snap, replace the side handles with some nylon webbing, roll up two hand towels underneath and remove the counter top hinged cover. Sounds like a lot but it's actually useful now. The large cooler lid is now our counter top and we use small frozen ice blocks that have lasted 4+days with normal cooler access. It comes with a drain fitting threaded for a normal garden hose so a 1-1/4" hole with a short section of hose is ready to drain ice melt into a bucket anytime.

The downside to a large cooler is that.....it's LARGE. Filled with food/ice it becomes ballast to be considered. While it's really heavy, it won't disappoint the team on a hot weekend excursion. The 12v coolers produce heat which may become undesirable if it's broiling outside beside the fact that they can only produce about a 35degree diff from outside temps. 80=45 in the cooler. Not good enough for my food in Fl.

Doing some major improvements to our boat over the summer so we'll continue to post as we tweak. M&K

I'm looking at this one once I can get into the boat being shipped from Arizona and see how much space it has for a 12volt cooler. This site has a 12v refrig/freezer that actually uses freon and gets rave reviews on it.
