Hello, My old 1997 8 hp 2 stroke died. I just bought a long shaft 2010 Honda 4 stroke which seems substantially heavier that the original motor @110lbs. I thought I had read somewhere that the original motor support on my 1997 hunter 26 was only rated for a ten hp and 90 lbs. Does anyone know if I need to reinforce the motor mount on the transom or I can just go for it? Thanks

would not suggest using full power unless you beef up the support with distributing the load on the inside wall of the transom. Not sure which type of board you have to mount the engine on. advise.
There were some issues with cracks in the metal motor mounts on a some of the 260's. I suspect it was a result of trailering long distances. If the motor is tilted up and a strap connected from the motors skeg to the pushpit it should be fine in my opinion. I trailered my 260 from Canada to Florida that way with a Honda 25" extra long shaft and had no problems. I seldom needed full throttle with the high thrust Honda. The high output alternator is a bonus on these motors if you intend to do any longer trips. We lived on our 260 for over two months on one cruise.

Hello, I have what appears to be a two piece high density Teflon type material. I had to use a high speed cutter on my dremel tool to enlarge the recess for the new Honda motor mounting turn screws. There are four bolts going through the transom securing the motor mount Teflon boards.

Hello, I used my Honda 8 HP 2stroke for the first time this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. It runs so smooth and quiet and with so much more power compared to my previous 8 HP 2 stroke, it's incredible. The only issue I have is it trends to rise up out of the water in reverse and it is an extended long shaft which does not come completely out of the water when sailing or docking. I am going to have to either tie it up from the skeg or block it up with a spacer of some sort at the hinged factor blocking mechanjsm.

Interesting that you say yours is smoothly running. My 9.9 hp 4-stroke does not.
But it does not come up in reverse. Check the tilt mechanic, it seems not properly clicked in.

When transporting any sailboat with an engine attached, I would strongly suggest that you tie the handle with a rope or line upward say to the base of stern pulpit nearby as an example because the motor is essentially bouncing up and down stressing the outboard motor bracket and attachement areas causing cracking. This helps to prevent from doing that. Also, if it is a newer four stroke engine, the motor is heavier and suggest beefing up the nuts and bolts by larger plates inside the boat on transom wall to distribute the load out further.
